Build instructions

What you'll need: 200-250 gsm paper or cardstock, scissors or a craft knife, a ruler and glue stick.

• Print the PDF at actual size (100%, do not scale to fit page) on 200-250 gsm paper.
• Cut out each piece along the solid lines.
• Score the dashed lines with a ruler for precise folds.
• Glue the pieces in the numbered order on each sheet, working from the body outward to the details.
• Let each joint dry before moving on to the next piece.

About the Mercedes-AMG GT Safety Car F1

The Mercedes-AMG GT S replaced the SLS AMG as Formula 1's official safety car, and comes out at every Grand Prix to neutralize the race after an on-track incident.

History and trivia

The safety car was introduced in Formula 1 in 1973, at the Canadian Grand Prix, though for years it was used only occasionally and not always successfully, including at least one notorious mix-up over which car should be leading the pack. It wasn't until 1993 that it became a permanent part of the regulations, used to neutralize the race after an accident or dangerous track conditions. Mercedes-Benz became the official safety car supplier in 1996, starting with a C36 AMG, and has since updated the car through increasingly powerful models: the CLK55 AMG, SL55 AMG, CLS63 AMG, SLS AMG and, most recently, the Mercedes-AMG GT.

Since 2000, German driver Bernd Maylander has been the face of Mercedes' F1 safety car, racking up more track appearances than most full-time grid drivers. Alongside the safety car, Mercedes also supplies the medical car that follows the field on the opening lap of every race. The introduction of the Virtual Safety Car in 2015 didn't replace the physical car — it added an extra tool for slowing the race down without needing the AMG GT to actually go out on track.
