History and trivia
The Superb name goes back much further than today's Škoda: the Czech brand first used it in the 1930s for a range of large, prestigious saloons, a line that was cut short by the Second World War and the later nationalization of Czechoslovak industry. The name was revived in 2001, by then under Volkswagen Group ownership, to place Škoda in the large-saloon segment, and the Combi estate variant followed soon after to round out the range with a body style aimed at buyers who need serious cargo space.
One of the Superb's defining traits is how efficiently it uses its interior space, often outdoing similarly sized premium rivals thanks to a generous wheelbase and shared engineering with Volkswagen Group's modular platform. Škoda has consistently applied its "Simply Clever" philosophy to this model, with practical touches like umbrellas built into the doors, an ice scraper hidden in the tailgate, and a phone holder, small details that have helped build the brand's reputation for value for money.
