About the Red Bull RB16B
The RB16B carried Max Verstappen to his first world title in 2021, after one of the closest battles in recent F1 history against Lewis Hamilton, decided on the final lap of the final race.
History and trivia
The RB16B was an evolution of the 2020 RB16, developed within the strict limits F1's post-pandemic regulations placed on car development to freeze most of the design. Despite starting from a known base, the technical team led by Adrian Newey and Pierre Waché squeezed every allowed margin to improve aerodynamics and weight distribution, turning the RB16B into a car able to match the dominant Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton head-to-head all season long.
The 2021 season is remembered as one of the most fiercely contested in F1 history: Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton arrived level on points for the final race in Abu Dhabi, where a controversial reshuffling of lapped cars behind a late safety car allowed Verstappen to pass Hamilton on the last lap and claim his first world championship. It was the first title won by a driver other than Hamilton since 2016 and Red Bull Racing's first since the Vettel era, kicking off a new period of dominance for the Austrian team.
