The RB15 was the first step in Red Bull's resurgence with Honda power, a partnership that would culminate two years later in Max Verstappen's 2021 title.
The RB15 marked a turning point for Red Bull Racing as the team's first car powered by Honda engines, following several difficult seasons with Renault. The partnership drew early skepticism given Honda's recent history in the sport, but the engine-chassis package, designed under technical director Adrian Newey, proved competitive from the start of the 2019 season, laying the groundwork for a collaboration that would later become one of the grid's most successful.
Max Verstappen, then just 21 years old, took the RB15 to its first win of the season at the Austrian Grand Prix, recovering from a modest starting position, and added further victories over the course of the year that secured him third place in the drivers' championship. His teammate changed mid-season: Pierre Gasly was replaced by Alexander Albon, promoted from sister team Toro Rosso. Red Bull finished third in the constructors' championship behind Mercedes and Ferrari, confirming that the Honda engine was no longer a handicap.
