About the Fiat 500

Launched in 1957 as the successor to the Fiat 500 "Topolino", the Nuova 500 became a symbol of post-war Italy.

History and trivia

Thanks to its compact size, rear-mounted twin-cylinder engine and affordable price, nearly four million units were built through 1975, making it one of the most popular cars in European history. Its design, the work of Dante Giacosa, directly inspired the modern 2007 Fiat 500, which replicates the original's proportions and silhouette almost literally.
